The United Nation Children’s Fund has urged the Gombe State Government to enact the Child Right Law to ensure proper protection of the lives of children in the state.

Ms Ladi Alabi, the UNICEF Child Protection Specialist, Bauchi Field Office, made the call during a Child Protection Strengthening System Training on Monday in Gombe.

According to Alabi, for rights of children to be properly protected, a legal document must be made available to support and back the activities of various sectors and stakeholders carrying out such function.

“We really need a functional child right law in this state; you cannot protect the rights of children without a law backing it.

“For us to effectively protect children’s rights in this state there is need for a functional law to be on the ground.

“We need a comprehensive document that one can lay his hands on when working to ensure that the rights of children are not violated.

“So, I want to urge the government of Gombe state and indeed other relevant stakeholders to do something fast about this,’’ she said.
