Ade Adesomoju, Abuja                                                                                                   A prominent legal practitioner, Mike Ozekhome (SAN), said the Chief of Army Staff, Tukur Buratai, should not be removed without trial.

‎He said this amid calls for investigation of Buratai over allegation of diverting public funds to buy properties worth $1.5m in Dubai, United Arab Emirate.

He said Buratai should only be removed after he is found guilty of an alleged crime.

He said the government should make the Chief of Army Staff to undergo trial while still serving as ‎a military officer to prove that its anti-corruption war is not targeted at profiled opponents.

He said, “Unlike the turncoat clapping bootlickers who hear no evil, see no evil and do no evil and who now believe in conviction and sentencing especially on pages of newspapers, social and electronic media before trial, I will rather urge that he be first tried through our criminal justice system trial, which is accusatorial and not inquisitorial. When found guilty, he can then be dismissed or court-martialled.

“Let the government for once prove us wrong that it’s so called anti-corruption war is not targeted at profiled opponents by putting him through trial as a serving military officer. Just for once, I want to be proved wrong.”
