The Forum of Former Deputy Governors across the six geo-political zones has condemned the recent bombing of oil and gas facilities by militants in the Niger Delta region.
The forum made this known in a communiqué issued at the end of its general meeting held in Benin, the Edo State capital, where it elected new officers.
The new officers include former deputy governors of Edýo, Kebbi and Taraba– Lucky Imasuen, Alhaji Suleman Argungu, and Abubakar Armayau, who were elected as chairman, vice chairman and secretary-general respectively.
Several oil pipelines in Bayelsa and Delta states have come under severe attacks by militants who had threatened to cut down the nation’s oil production to zero.
But the forum, through its former spokesman, Abdulmalik Mahmud, expressed concern over the indulgence of the youth in violent attacks on the country’s assets, which they said could have devastating effect on the economy.
While condemning the agitation in the South-East and the killings in the North-East, it urged the community leaders in the affected areas to prevail on the young Nigerians to shun violence and focus on nation building.
